Independent Australian developer Spoonful of Wonder has announced the much-anticipated release date for their charming story-driven adventure, Copycat, exclusively via IGN. The reveal comes with a brand-new trailer that offers a glimpse into the game’s unique feline perspective.
Copycat follows the journey of Dawn, a shelter cat who dreams of freedom rather than a life with another adoptive owner. Her world shifts when she crosses paths with Olive, a grieving elderly woman mourning her lost feline friend. As Dawn and Olive form a deep bond, their relationship is tested when a stray cat usurps Dawn’s spot in the home, prompting Dawn to embark on a journey of self-discovery.
In Copycat, players step into the paws of Dawn, experiencing the world from a cat’s viewpoint. The gameplay features climbing trees, battling neighborhood dogs, engaging in mischievous antics, and exploring various environments. Through these experiences, players will unravel themes of home, love, loneliness, and separation.
The game promises an “emotionally touching and hopeful” narrative with a three-hour playthrough. It includes full voice acting, text translations into Russian, and a soundtrack blending jazz, lullabies, and tribal tunes.
Copycat is slated for release on September 19 and will be available exclusively on Steam for $15. A demo version is currently up for grabs on the Steam page, giving players a chance to preview the game’s heartfelt adventure before its official launch.
