At this week’s Deutsche Bank Technology Conference, Intel CEO Patrick Gelsinger took the stage to unveil crucial updates on the company’s latest advancements. Amid a challenging reputation landscape, Gelsinger highlighted Intel’s progress with its cutting-edge 18A process technology, revealing that the company is on track to deliver Panther Lake and Clearwater Forest samples by the end of 2024.
Intel’s 18A process, a key part of the company’s future plans, represents a significant leap forward. Gelsinger confirmed that Intel has been working with Panther Lake samples since last quarter and is set to ramp up production. “We are seeing strong progress with the Intel 18A process,” Gelsinger stated. “Our goal is to produce wafers with Panther Lake before the year ends, and we will also deliver Clearwater Forest server processor samples to customers by then.”
The shift to Intel 18A holds symbolic importance for the company. It marks a return to in-house production for client processors, a significant move away from reliance on TSMC’s 3nm technology. By showcasing the capabilities of Panther Lake through engineering samples, Intel aims to set itself apart from competitors, who may not deliver comparable products until late 2025 or even 2027.
Gelsinger’s remarks also laid out a roadmap for mass production and profitability. While the company will begin producing using Intel 18A at the close of 2025, the full impact on the business is expected to materialize in 2026. For now, the focus is on laying a solid foundation for future growth and demonstrating the technological prowess of the 18A process.
As Intel gears up for these pivotal developments, Gelsinger’s update signals a renewed commitment to innovation and competitive edge in the tech industry.
