Acer has officially entered the handheld gaming console market with the announcement of its Nitro Blaze 7, a device aimed at competing with established players like the Steam Deck and Asus ROG Ally. The move signals Acer’s foray into a growing segment of portable gaming, where performance and portability are key.
The Nitro Blaze 7 features a 7-inch IPS display with a crisp 1920 × 1080 resolution and an impressive 144 Hz refresh rate, ensuring smooth visuals. The screen boasts 500 cd/m² peak brightness and covers 100% of the sRGB color gamut, offering vibrant and detailed imagery. Gamers can also benefit from AMD FreeSync Premium, which reduces screen tearing and enhances overall gameplay experience.
Powering the Nitro Blaze 7 is the AMD Ryzen 7 8840HS processor, featuring eight cores and 16 threads, with clock speeds reaching up to 5.1 GHz. Integrated AMD Radeon 780M graphics deliver strong gaming performance, while a 50 Wh battery ensures long-lasting play sessions on the go.
Unconventionally, the Nitro Blaze 7 lacks a touchpad and rear-facing buttons, setting it apart from many competitors in the handheld space. However, Acer has equipped the device with two USB Type-C ports — one at the top and one at the bottom — providing flexibility in charging and connectivity options.
In terms of audio, the Nitro Blaze 7 includes two 1W speakers, along with a 3.5 mm audio jack for headsets. Wireless connectivity is robust, featuring Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 support.
Acer has yet to reveal the retail price or launch date for the Nitro Blaze 7, but the device’s specifications suggest it will be a serious contender in the handheld gaming market.
